MASORTI JUDAISM, London, United Kingdom
We have implemented the following activities as a result of our involvement in the L.E.T. Grundtvig project:
1. A 20-hour leadership training course, based on the content learned in the Grundtvig seminars. Among the course facilitators were participants and trainers from the Grundtvig programme. Participants included 15 learners from across our member organizations. The course was held at the premises of our members in London and Hertfordshire.
2. A European leadership development day was held in St Albans, bringing together participants in the Grundtvig programme with approximately 40 other members of our UK groups. It showed the St Albans organization to be welcoming and friendly, it provided us with the opportunity to engage new volunteers and leaders, and we gained experience in hosting a big event in our new premises.
3. Inspired by the leadership and interfaith content of the project, we have engaged with a local broad-based community organizing network, Citizens UK. We have begun to partner with other local groups (churches, mosques, schools, student unions) to work on common issues that affect our members: street safety, working poverty, social care. Our youth organization and two of our member groups have come into membership of Citizens UK. Our youth organization, Noam, will be holding a Kabbalat Shabbat service at the local Church together with their own youth to give the Christian community an insight into how we celebrate the Sabbath. We are also starting to organize educational visits for local schools and to organize an educational event for Holocaust Memorial Day.
4. One of our member organizations, St Albans, has drawn upon the leadership tools learned during the project to launch a ‘Listening Campaign’ designed to build relationships, develop leadership and get to know the issues facing their members.
We think it would be a pity to let slip the associations and friendships we have made with the organizations involved in this project, therefore we plan on keeping in close touch with our partners in the Grundtvig programme.
