Jewish Cultural Association Aviv was founded in 2004 by a group of Jews who had recently arrived in Valencia from different countries and a few local people. Encouraged by the need to live a Jewish life integrating both tradition and modern life, we gathered together to share and create a dynamic community, with a fresh approach and an up-to-date practice of Judaism.
Our community was inspired by the Conservative movement, known worldwide as Masorti. We wrote our constitution following the movement’s guidelines. We rented a studio flat where we celebrated our first Kabalat Shabbat and started to organize various religious and social activities, educational and cultural events and projects. With this new energy, we have answered a latent need to strengthen the spiritual voice of our members, transmitting Jewish faith and knowledge both inside and outside the community. We promote a traditional and dynamic Judaism, according to the concerns of modern life and assuring a Jewish legacy to future generations.
This avant-garde spirit, which has characterized Aviv from the beginning, still guides us today: we continue to look for new ways to respond to the 21st century’s cultural and social reality. We are transforming the current economic crisis into an opportunity to share our needs, interests and concerns. We now have a new venue – a new home where we can host people and meet their real and specific needs, especially the spiritual ones. Our Patriarchs and Prophets have said ‘Hineni’, a biblical word that means ’Here I am’. We are committed to answering every time someone comes to us for help. We are here to accompany, strengthen, enrich, educate, inform. We are here to support anyone who shows legitimate interest in living a Jewish life and in learning and sharing our project.
It is very important for our organization to participate in congresses, conferences and different kinds of activities involving Spanish society since Judaism is still little known in our country and we want to change that.
Educational activities are a priority for us; we offer weekly classes for all levels and ages. Our organization is young, dynamic, egalitarian and democratic. We promote respect and tolerance between religions and cultures.
